Hello Chris
I’ve put together the following for your web site. Let me know if it needs
amending
‘ The PCC have discussed for many years, the provision of toilet facilities at Barlow Church
but the receipt of a generous bequest finally gave us the
opportunity to make it a reality.
Our Architect, Mark Parsons of Anthony Short & Partners of Ashbourne drew up a scheme to
provide a kitchen, circulation area, store and disabled w/c with baby changing facilities. The much needed refurbishment of the vestry was also included in the scheme.
Our chosen contractors, W Howlett & Sons of Kirkby in Ashfield, began work in late September
2010 and had to contend with the worst spell of heavy snow and freezing temperatures that many can remember.
The building is now complete and everyone at St Lawrence Church, Barlow is absolutely delighted
with the result which has far exceeded all our expectations. The extension looks magnificent thanks to Mark Parsons’ sympathetic design.
We also thank the Howlett team of Neil, Chris, John and Adrian and also to their father William who
was dragged out of retirement to help catch up after the heavy snow falls.
Howlett's are a long established family firm and their standard of work and attention to detail is
exceptional. They have all the traditional craft skills necessary for working on ancient listed buildings and have adapted, discussed and taken on board our suggestions as the build has progressed.
They have helped to smooth out what could be a very stressful process for the client.
Apart from their exceptional building skills, they also happen to be very nice people to deal
with.
Thanks you from all the congregation for providing a beautiful building which will serve the people
of Barlow for many years to come.
